Abstract

Objective: Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndro-me (OSAS), which characterized recurrent up-per respiratory tract  collapse, is shown over 40 years old men in more than 10% incidence, which cause erectile dysfunction that not clearly defined, in 30% with 50% of these men have OSAS.  In this study we have tried to reveal the relationship OSAS and ED because of unclear multifactorial etiology.

Material and Methods: We have examined 70 patients who could not be treated because of erectile dysfunction; demographic information, gonadal function, lower urinary tract symptoms, comorbidity index and IIEF (International In-dex of Erectile Function) -15 form for erectile dysfunction, who applied for sleep disturbance and testing polisomnograpy at polisomnograpy laboratuary.

Results: The polysomnographic findings by obstructive sleep apnea degree of patients clas-sified by grouping IIEF-15 form and evaluated within the framework specified parameters with sleep apnea syndrome were found to have sig-nificant association between erectile dysfuncti-on (p <0.005). Significant association between  OSAS with IIEF score was not detected.

Conclusion: Erectile dysfunction such as a major health problem for male patients was de-tected higher rate  in patients with OSAS.

Key Words: Sleep, Apnea, Erectile Dysfunction
